How and Why I Lost Thirty Pounds

Obesity and weight issues are at the heart of many health problems. Fat cells are highly adaptive and aggressive. They will deposit under the skin as well as smear every organ inside the body. For example, in 'fatty liver disease', liver function gets disrupted by enormous heap of fat deposit. Fat cells are capable of producing active biological substances which contribute to some of the fat related illnesses: hypertension, diabetes, gall bladder disease, obstructive sleep apnea, depression, cancer and so forth.

Therefore, before you begin popping pills for the rest of your life to lower your high blood pressure, perhaps you ought to do one thing: lose some weight, especially if you are overweight. That was what I did when I was diagnosed with this malady. There will be no need to cry for me. I got it taken care of. I went rogue and changed my lifestyle habits. You too can do the same.

High blood pressure is a silent killer. There is no symptom to alarm people when they have this illness. People with high blood pressure are often unaware that they have this condition. Tragically, many people only realize that they have high blood pressure when they become unable to move a part of their body, or suffer from stroke.

How can I find out if have high blood pressure?

Blood pressure measurement is the only way to determine whether one has hypertension or not. Blood pressure is measured using a blood pressure meter, also known as sphygmomanometer. The upper arm is often a convenient place to check a person's Blood pressure values. Self-help automated blood pressure gauges are readily available and can also be used to check and monitor blood pressure.

There are two numbers to watch for in evaluating blood pressure results. The top number is the systolic blood pressure, and the lower number the diastolic. A person is said to have high blood pressure, also known as hypertension, when his or her systolic value is equal or greater than 140 mm of mercury, and or when his or her diastolic value is equal or more than 90 mm of mercury.

Take some action immediately. Find out what your pressure reading is today. Also encourage your spouses, your parents, your friends and members of your family to get theirs checked.

I must emphasize that not everybody who is overweight will suffer hypertension. On the other hand, there are people who are lean, yet have elevated Blood pressure. This means that there are many other causes of hypertension beside overweight and obesity.

The good news is that hypertension caused by excessive weight gain or obesity is both preventable and reversible when one changes their life style habits and looses weight.

How do I know if I am overweight?

Is your belly flat or pumped out?. In the absence of pregnancy or a disease condition, a bulging or protruding abdomen is a definite sign of obesity. Excessive fat can also accumulate around the flanks as love handles and on the cheek, giving one a cherubim face. Body mass index, also known as BMI, gives an indication to whether a person is overweight or not. An Individual can easily look up their BMI online. One needs to plug-in their height and weight in the BMI formula.

How do I begin to shake off some of my fat and regain my health?

Losing excess weight is not as hard as you may think. The body would gladly give up the stored fat that it does not need. The problem is that people do not bother trying. Many of us have succumbed to the rigors of daily life routine.

For the fat to start melting from under your skin, I recommend two life changing habits. No more procrastination. Take back your life today.

Eat healthy.
Exercise regularly.

Eating healthy means:

Ø Choose plant-based food, veggies, fruits, legumes, tubers over animal based food

Ø Do not taint your natural food with unnatural additives, e.g. refined sugar and salt

Ø Do not fry your food. Cook them or bake them. No oil please

Ø Be wary of all snacks, their calories add up. No candies please

Ø Refined sugar is your enemy. Food industries use it to capture your taste buds

Ø Say 'no' to soda and all soft drinks

Ø Diversify what you eat from all the major food groups.

Ø Eat in moderation; too much of a good plant-based food is equally bad

Ø Know what you are eating, read your food labels

Ø Did you know that the recommended daily salt intake is half of a teaspoon?

Ø Don't forget, even the best of food, when taken in excess of what the body needs, is converted into fat and stored in the body as extra calories.

Exercise regularly

Ø A trim body gives a great look and confidence.

Ø Regular exercise increases physical and mental energy.

Ø Adopt the kind of exercise activities you love

Ø Find time to exercise, but, do not replace healthy food habit with exercise

Ø Do not invent any more excuses why you cannot exercise

Ø Walk, everybody walks, walk the trails, walk up the hill, keep moving

Commit to a new habit today. Do not live life with a passive attitude. Why allow yourself to get heavier each month? Fight off fat and obesity.
