Easy and Effective Ways To Build Muscle at Home
Building muscle at home can be easy and effective. I used to go the gym but since I work at home and was trying to save money on my gym membership I bought a barbell and some free weights and began doing my workouts at home. I love weaving my weight training into the fabric of my everyday life. The nice thing about weight training is that it does not require a sustained effort and can be done in short, intense bursts.
In fact, muscle-building exercises require short rest periods, so it's really nice to be at home where you can relax and use the time to read or do a few dishes rather than just sitting and staring blankly around you at some strange weight room. You can do more intense work because you are able to rest and recover your strength fully before tackling the next set.
You can start really simple and add slowly to your home gym over time. I don't have a dedicated space for my workout area, so I like to set up little stations in my house. If you're working at a desk or have a home office, it's helpful to keep some weights in the same area so you can get up and pump out some squats or shoulder presses when stuck on a problem or just feeling uninspired.
The obvious benefit is to your brain, which receives a fresh supply of blood. I have always noticed that strength training improved my concentration and gave me an extra burst of energy, but usually I was working out in the evening after my day was over, and then having trouble sleeping due to an overactive and alert mind.
Initially, my workouts at home were somewhat unfocused. What has helped me the most is to keeping my records handy to mark down my sets. I keep everything on my laptop but you can use a notebook as well. I can plan my workout in advance and then just check off planned exercises and sets as I do them. This way I know I am getting in full and effective workouts.
When I have a free moment, all I have to do is pick up my workout plan and go do it. I jot down any modifications as I go along. Records can be quite helpful when working on building muscle, and especially when building muscle at home.
